Bench press
In 2024, Ålands kraftsportklubb (ÅKK) (Åland strength sports club) will arrange the Finland-Swedish Sports Federation’s championship in bench press competition in Mariehamn as part of the Åland Sport Week.
Both skilled world elite lifters and first-time competitors will meet on the competition stage during the event, and the fellowship among the lifters in bench press is usually more important than the results.

Everyone competes in an open age class, and the competition is determined according to IPFGL points in four different weight classes:
- Lightweight (women -47 kg and -52 kg, and men -59 kg and -66 kg)
- Middleweight (women -57 kg and -63 kg, and men -74 kg and -83 kg)
- Light heavyweight (women -69 kg and -76 kg, and men -93 kg and -105 kg)
- Heavyweight (women -84 kg and 84+ kg, and men -120 kg and 120+ kg)

Medals for the top 3 in lightweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight. Additional prize for the best female and male lifter. The competition is both classic and equipped. Judges with the right to judge national records will be present. An agreement with the Swedish Powerlifting Federation has also enabled participation for competitors from Sweden (a dispensation application to the competition committee in Sweden is required, however).
From a doping control perspective, the competition is regarded as an international event, which is why international doping regulations should be considered and any requests for exemptions for medications, treatments, etc., should be applied for.
Apart from inviting SFI associations (Finland-Swedish associations), we also welcome other associations from Finland and Sweden to experience the unique fellowship. The competition will be arranged outdoors at the city square in the centre of Mariehamn, in order to attract spectators who usually do not follow bench press competitions.
